Kaziranga National Park, in the northeast Indian state of Assam, was established in order to protect the population of Indian Rhinoceros. A conservation success story, Kaziranga is now home to the largest population of Indian Rhinoceros, hosting two-thirds of the world’s population of this threatened species. It is also home to a high density of Asian Elephants and tigers, as well as other mammals such as Wild Water Buffalo, Swamp Deer, and many more. Kaziranga is also home to many bird species, including the Swamp Francolin, Pin-striped Tit-Babbler, and many more.

Itineraries
Day 1
Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Bon Habi Lodge
Arrive at Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the morning. Our driver will meet you and you will leave for Kaziranga National Park (6 hrs drive). Kaziranga is a UNESCO natural heritage site which was declared a protected area by viceroy Lord Curzon in 1905 due to a large number of species and rich biodiversity of animals and migratory birds found on the grasslands. Arrive in Kaziranga and check in to your resort. You have the rest of the day at leisure to relax or have a chat with your guide and tour leader about elephants, rhinos, tigers, and their conservation.

Day 2
Kaziranga National Park

In the morning, embark on a guided jeep safari in the central range of the grasslands in Kohora to sight the famous One-horned Rhinoceros, and explore the habitats that support another giant: the Asian Elephant. During the day, one can visit the Orchid Park, rubber plantations, and nearby villages of Karbi Tribe, and maybe learn about their generations-long history with elephants. After lunch, go for another jeep safari in the forests of the offbeat eastern range at Agoratoli, which is good for sighting migratory and wetland birds and sometimes Royal Bengal Tigers on the banks of Brahmaputra. In the evening, see traditional dances and a cultural program of the different indigenous communities of Assam (at an extra cost).

In the morning have your breakfast and check out from the lodge. Proceed to Guwahati for some local sightseeing. You can visit Kamakhaya Temple, Nabagraha Temple (the temple of nine planets), State Museum (closed on Monday and holidays), Assam State Zoo, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra.
If time permits, you can visit Umananda Island temple on the Brahmaputra (ferry crossing on own), and Basistha Temple.
Later transfer to Guwahati Airport for your return journey.
